DE PERE – St. Norbert College cruised in its first conference game of the year against Rockford University, dethroning the Regents 81-39 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Green Knights (2-3, 1-0 NACC) never trailed and held a sizeable lead for most of the contest, going up by as many as 48 at one point while holding Rockford to a lowly 36.1 percent shooting night.
Following early turnovers from both teams, Reese Sellers and Rose Hahn connected back-to-back 3-pointers for an early 6-0 lead. Work in the paint got the Green Knights a majority of their points early on and led 21-10 at the end of the first quarter. A 10-0 run gave St. Norbert a 29-10 lead at 8:01 in the second quarter. In the second period, St. Norbert held the Regents to just six points and two field goals to take a 46-16 lead at halftime.
Taylor Thiry and Avery Bierowski (pictured) combined for the first eight points out of halftime as the rotation for St. Norbert continued to score. From the bench, St. Norbert totaled 35 points as over a dozen Green Knights saw playing time.
Going up 70-23 in the fourth quarter, St. Norbert took its largest lead of the game at 5:16 with a 48-point advantage with a score of 80-32.
The Green Knights shot 52.2 percent from the floor (35-for-67) and outrebounded the Regents 35-27. Bierowski led St. Norbert with 16 points, making seven of her eight field goal attempts. Sellers, Thiry and Oakley Witteck all had eight points while Hahn, Addyson Phipps and Olivia Conway had six.
Katie Paredes led the Regents with 17 points and five rebounds. Te Simpson had 13 points and nine boards.
