FOND DU LAC – St. Norbert College earned its first shutout win of the season in a 3-0 victory over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey League game at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.
The Green Knights (4-1, 3-0 NCHA), ranked No. 6 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, took some time to find the back of the net against the Sabres, being held to a scoreless first period. Briar Charchenko (pictured) broke the deadlock at 15:53 in the second period to give St. Norbert a 1-0 lead going into the second intermission.
Abby Pieper scored near the end of the third period at 14:59 off an assist from Emily Bill to make it 2-0, while an empty-net goal from Grace Wittkopf at 18:49 all but secured the points for the Green Knights.
St. Norbert outshot the Sabres 33-19. Tanith Plachetka earned her first career shutout with 19 stops, while Gretchen Woelber made 30 saves for Marian.
The Green Knights went 0-for-3 on the power play. Marian was 0-for-1.
