DE PERE - St. Norbert College got a key goal late in the second period and then pulled away in the third period en route to a 5-1 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (5-1, 3-0 NCHA), ranked No. 4 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, were locked in a 1-1 tie with the Sabres when
Gustav Portillo (pictured) scored into an open net at 17:44 of the second period for a big 2-1 lead.
St. Norbert began to pull away when
Logan Dombrowsky scored an impressive wraparound goal at 1:45 of the third period for a 3-1 edge. The Green Knights delivered the backbreaker when
Blake Ulve potted a rebound of a
Bryan Gilman shot for a shorthanded marker at 9:06. St. Norbert closed out the scoring when
Braydon Beahm scored a power-play goal at 18:05. The goal extended Beahm's streak of games with a goal to open his college career to six.
The Green Knights drew first blood when
Ethan Byrne scored on a breakaway at 6:54 of the first period, which held up into first intermission. Marian scored on a breakaway when Caden Carlson scored at 15:10 of the second period.
Portillo and Dombrowsky each had one goal and one assist for two points.
Braden Lindstrom and
Jack Seaverson both had two assists for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Marian 49-18.
Hunter Garvey made 17 saves for the Green Knights, while Nicholas Von Kaufmann made 44 stops for the Sabres.
The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Sabres were 0-for-2.
