DE PERE – St. Norbert College maintained its lead at the top of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, sweeping Concordia University Wisconsin with a 4-2 win at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (14-3, 10-0 NCHA) drew first blood but found themselves tied with less than three minutes remaining in the third period. Courtnie Hogan and Natalie Hogan (pictured) would push the Green Knights over the line with late heroics, scoring two goals about a minute apart from each other.
Naomi Balon picked up where St. Norbert left often on Friday, scoring just 2:31 into the first period off assists from Ava Anick and Jo Mahlum. Anick's assist was her third of the weekend series with the Falcons. Concordia Wisconsin found an equalizer at 16:30 from Brooke Gibson, with the goal being the first time in nearly four periods that the Falcons found the back of the net against the Green Knights.
St. Norbert retook the lead at 17:32 in the second period, as Grace Witkopf scored to put the Green Knights up 2-1. The Falcons, after being kept quiet in the second frame, again found a leveler, scoring at 3:43 to open the third period.
After being kept at bay for most of the final period, the Hogan sisters gave the Green Knights some breathing room as they took their largest lead of the day with a score of 4-2. Courtnie Hogan put away a nice, backhanded pass from Syndey Zurawick at 17:31, while Natalie Hogan added the dagger just a minute later with an empty net goal. The Falcons would add a third with six seconds left but was too late to change the outcome.
Allison Jacobsen and Witkopf recorded multi-point games, with Jacobson providing two assists and Witkopf adding one assist following her goal in the second period. Maddux Federici and Keira Markell each had one assist.
St. Norbert outshot the Falcons 38-17. Markell made 14 stops for St. Norbert, while Kami McCardle made 34.
Both the Green Knights and Falcons went 0-for-2 on the powerplay.
