Green Knights Top Rockford

DE PERE – St. Norbert College made light work of Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center, getting past the Regents 79-52 to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Green Knights (9-3, 4-0 NACC) only trailed once in the first quarter and never looked back after regaining the lead. St. Norbert ended the second quarter on a 20-5 run to go up 39-24 at the break to extend the lead to 30 points in the second half.

After trailing 6-5 with 6:42 in the first quarter, St. Norbert regained the lead for good with 7:38 left in the second quarter off an Emma Morrisey bucket. Morrisey kickstarted the massive run to end the half, with the Regents hitting only one field goal in the period after that point. Oakley Witteck (pictured), Marnie Kahl and Taylor Thiry extended the lead to double digits, with St. Norbert leading 31-20 with 4:05 left in the quarter.

As the Green Knights continued to grow their lead in the third quarter, the points were coming easy in the paint as at one point St. Norbert scored on five consecutive possessions. Witteck's 3-pointer with 2:21 left in the quarter gave the Green Knights a 57-32 advantage.

Many Green Knights got in on the action in the fourth quarter, including Charley Mullen, Olivia Conway and Makayla Hayes. The three of them combined for eight of St. Norbert's 20 points in the fourth quarter.

St. Norbert shot 40.6 percent (28-for-69) from the floor. Morrisey led the Green Knights with 16 points while Witteck had 13. Kahl had 10 points off the bench, while Thiry and Rose Hahn each had nine. The Green Knights outrebounded the Regents 45-30.

Rockford shot 36.4 percent (16-for-44) from the floor. Nia Wilkerson led the Regents with 14 points.
