DE PERE – St. Norbert College bounced back with a big win over Rockford University on alumni day, knocking off the Regents 89-75 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Green Knights (10-4, 6-1 NACC) held a 43-31 lead at halftime after shooting over 60 percent from the floor. It would be a game that the Green Knights led wire-to-wire.
St. Norbert held a sizable 25-12 lead with 9:23 remaining in the first half. The Regents were able to get within eight at one point but could not come any closer. Garrett Grzesk, Jaeden Grade (pictured) and Brandt Wilson all contributed to 3-point shooting that helped St. Norbert maintain a strong lead going into the break.
Although Rockford would not score a field goal until 17:35 in the second half, it found its way to the charity stripe as they closed in on the lead. A three with 16:48 on the clock put them the closest they had been to challenging the Green Knights with a score of 46-40.
Wilson was the main catalyst for points in the opening minutes of the second half, as he scored the first seven points for St. Norbert.
The Green Knights brought the lead back up to double digits with 13:24 remaining after another Grade three, but the Regents didn't back down and came within five two times. St. Norbert countered this with nine free throw makes out of 10 attempts in the last four minutes. Connor Pytleski converted one more 3-pointer to put the game on ice as the Green Knights moved to 10 wins on the year.
St. Norbert shot 64.4 percent (29-for-45) from the floor, with the shooting from beyond the arc reaching 55.8 percent (10-for-18). Wilson led the Green Knights with 20 points and six rebounds. Grade went perfect from the floor and the free-throw line, as he finished the game with 17 points coming off the bench. Grzesk also had 17 points, while Jamison Nickolai had 11 and Pytleski had 10.
Rockford shot 42.6 percent (20-for-47) from the floor. Jaden Bell led the Regents with 15 points.
