MEQUON - A cold-shooting second half spelled defeat for St. Norbert College in a 75-72 setback at the hands of Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Green Knights held a 39-31 halftime lead but then shot 9-for-30 (30 percent) in the second half as the Falcons pulled ahead in the final 10 minutes.
St. Norbert opened up its biggest lead of the game at 12 points twice early in the second half, the latter at 45-33 with 18:12 remaining. The Falcons got to within three points at 52-49 with 12:43 to go and eventually pulled ahead with four free throws with 9:04 left for a 58-54 lead. Concordia led 70-60 with 2:16 to go before a wild final two minutes. A 7-0 run got the Green Knights to within 70-67 with 57 seconds to go. A pair of free throws and then a 3-pointer got the Green Knights to within one with 7 seconds left. Concordia got two free throws for a three-point lead, and St. Norbert was fouled with under a second left on a 3-pointer, but missed the last of the three free throws.
The Green Knights shot 40 percent (22-for-55) from the floor for the game and was 17-for-25 (68 percent) from the free-throw line.
Garrett Grzesk led St. Norbert with 19 points, while
Connor Pytleski added 13 points.
Concordia shot 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the floor and was 14-for-22 (63.6 percent) from the field in the second half. Casey Verhagen scored 26 points, while Logan Landers added 22 points.
