ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College got the second half of its regular season off to a strong start with a 4-2 win over Hamline University in a non-conference game at TRIA Rink.
The Green Knights (12-2) got an early lead and held on against the Pipers (9-3), ranked No. 15 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll.
St. Norbert got the early jump when
Tristan Wicklund scored just 1:28 into the game for an early 1-0 lead on her fourth goal of the season. The Green Knights made that marker hold up into first intermission.
The Green Knights doubled their lead midway through the second period when
Sydney Zurawik notched her fifth marker of the year, potting a goal at 10:14. The Pipers quickly responded with a goal by Haley Eder-Zdechlik 26 seconds later. St. Norbert rebuilt a two-goal lead when
Jo Mahlum (pictured) countered at 12:30 for a 3-1 edge.
Hamline cut its deficit to 3-2 when Abigail Chamernick scored at 14:14 of the third period. The Pipers had 55 seconds of extra-attacker time late in the game before
Lexi Bonfe scored an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left to lock up the Green Knights' victory.
Kelsey Ross had two assists for the Green Knights' lone multi-point game.
Hamline outshot St. Norbert 30-23.
Keira Markell made 28 saves for the Green Knights, while Kendra Nordick had 19 stops for Hamline.
St. Norbert was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Hamline was 0-for-3.
