CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – St. Norbert College couldn't get untracked offensively and opened its 2024 season with a 31-0 loss to Wabash College in a non-conference game at Little Giant Stadium.
The Green Knights fell behind on Wabash's second possession of the game, when Xavier Tyler scored from a yard out with 8:21 left in the first quarter, which was the opening period's only scoring.
Wabash scored on the second play of the second quarter when Blake White hit Connor Garrity on an 11-yard touchdown pass. The Little Giants then capped off a 15-play, 69-yard drive with a 31-yard field goal from Brody Rucker with 4:51 left before halftime.
St. Norbert then went on a long drive of its own, reaching the Wabash 1 with 17 seconds remaining. On third-and-goal, St. Norbert lost a fumble on the goal line with Samuel Ringer scooping the loose ball and scoring on a 100-yard return as time expired in the half for a 24-0 lead.
Wabash closed out the scoring on a 2-yard run by Tyler on the first play of the fourth quarter.
St. Norbert was outgained 294-232 in total offense.
Patrick Oden rushed 17 times for 81 yards as the Green Knights registered 144 rushing yards on 33 carries.
Peyton Lyon completed 11 of 24 passes for 71 yards.
Paul Bageanis and Oden each had three receptions.
White completed 20 of 27 passes for 175 yards to pace Wabash. Tyler rushed 25 times for 70 yards.
Sam Barnett led St. Norbert's defense with 10 tackles.
Kyle Santos and
Brett Boelkow had eight tackles apiece.
