DE PERE - St. Norbert College women's soccer fell to defeat in its home opener to North Park University, conceding two goals in the second half in a game that the Green Knights had mostly dominated.
Aleah Reesman had a great early chance to put the Green Knights up just under seven minutes into the game, but her header went over the top crossbar. It would be a theme throughout the first half, as St. Norbert found themselves in a good position to score, but just barley missed the mark.
In the first half, the Green Knights had eight shots on goal, while the Vikings had only one chance. Reesman had three shots on target in the half, while
Abby Thompson had two.
After the Green Knights got their first corner of the game early in the second half, North Park would score against the run of play, with Caroline Sjøstedt scoring after several attempts to break through the defense at 55:07.
Another Vikings goal at 73:30 from Juila Önnerheim saw the pace of the game change, as the Green Knights were struggling to get forward.
A big chance from
Oakley Witteck came agonizingly close with just five minutes to play, as she beat a defender and Vikings keeper Philemina Toca in the box, but with a tight angle to shoot from, her shot just narrowly missed the far post.
Lilly Collins made three saves for the Green Knights, while going forward they had more than two times of the shots that North Park had on opening night.
