STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College posted a clean sheet en route to its first win of the young season, a 1-0 triumph over UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference match at the Point Soccer Bowl.
The Green Knights (1-1) battled the Pointers to a scoreless first half. St. Norbert got off 14 shots in the first 45 minutes, with four on target, while Stevens Point took 10 shots with six finding its way on goal.
St. Norbert broke through in the 66th minute. The Green Knights had a throw-in deep in the Stevens Point end, with
Abby Moore passing to
Abby Thompson, whose left-footed shot from just inside the penalty area found the top shelf of the left corner at the 65:45 mark.
Stevens Point would outshoot St. Norbert 9-2 in the final 20 minutes of action, but the Green Knights back end held firm.
Taylor Wilson stopped all three shots she faced in that stretch to preserve the one-goal victory.
The Green Knights outshot Stevens Point 24-22 in the match and held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Moore and
Mackenzie Schneider each took five shots, with Alea Reesman and Alexia Fredenhagen each ripping four shots. Fredenhagen had three shots on goal, while Reeseman and Thompson had two apice.
Wilson picked up the win with her three saves in 45 minutes of relief.
Lilly Collins started between the posts for St. Norbert, making four saves in the first half.
