DE PERE – St. Norbert College fell 1-0 to Benedictine University in the first home conference game of the season, conceding a goal in the second half against the run of the play.
The Green Knights were on the front foot for most of the game, but costly offside calls in both halves cost the Green Knights nearly a dozen chances on goal.
Payton Schilz had two early looks on goal, but it wouldn't be until a Luke Behringer shot at 27:21 that a shot hit the mark for St. Norbert, with his shot being stopped by a fingertip from the Eagles goalkeeper.
The Green Knight defense stood strong in the first half, not allowing a single shot.
Joe Meade and Kevin Ramirez both had bodacious attempts just seconds apart from each other. Meade nearly scored in the top left corner of the goal, but after his attempt was saved, Ramirez attempted a flashy bicycle kick that fell just wide of the post.
The Eagles would catch the St. Norbert off guard with the only goal of the game, which was only their third shot of the afternoon, as Dawid Molek put away a solo effort at 60:48.
Meade made Benedictine keeper Jordan Rolan make three saves in the second half, but none of his close attempts were able to get past.
In the last 15 minutes, the Green Knights were caught offsides three times, damaging there attempts to tie the game late, as they fell 1-0.
St. Norbert outshot the Eagles 12-7 and had more than double the corners the visitors had, with the Green Knights leading 7-3.
Nate Jocz came up with four big saves in the second half, keeping St. Norbert's fight alive in the dying minutes.
