ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College opened its 2024 campaign with a split of two matches at the St. Catherine University/Hamline University Tournament.
The Green Knights opened with a 3-0 win over the University of Minnesota-Morris and followed with a 3-0 loss to host St. Catherine at Butler Center. St. Norbert topped Morris 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 before falling to the Wildcats 25-15, 25-17, 25-21.
St. Norbert was in control throughout against the Cougars, never trailing in the first two sets. The first set was tied at 21-21 and 22-22 before a Cougars service error and a
Maddie Kitowski service ace put St. Norbert up 24-22. The Green Knights led 16-11 in the third set before a 6-0 run decided the outcome.
The Green Knights hit .230 in the match, posting 40 kills against 14 errors in 113 attempts.
Alyssa Mills totaled 14 kills, while
Mari Szews added seven terminations.
Heidi Colburn had 30 assists. Defensively,
Lauren Borchardt had 14 digs, Mills 12 digs and
Kara Sowinski 11 digs.
Alli Clark had three blocks.
Against St. Catherine, the Green Knights hit .049 with 25 kills against 20 errors in 103 attempts. Mills had six kills, while Clark added five kills. Colburn posted 19 assists.
Sowinski led the back row with 13 digs, while Mills added 10. Szews had three blocks, while Clark added two.
St. Norbert wraps up its tournament against Hamline at 11 a.m. Saturday at historic Hutton Arena.
