Game Recap: Men’s Soccer |

Green Knights Held to Draw in Season Opener

STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College men's soccer opened their season with a 2-2 draw on the road against UW-Stevens Point, in a game where the Green Knights scored both of their goals in the second half after going behind twice.

The Pointers, who were playing in their first game in program history, stunned the Green Knights early. Scoring off a free kick just ten minutes into the contest, the home side kept their advantage going into the halftime break, despite being pelted with shots from St. Norbert through most of the half.

The Green Knights had eight shots in the first half, which forced four saves from the Stevens Point keeper.

St. Norbert continued to attack the goal in the early stages of the second half, as their persistence paid off with a Jonathan Hill goal off a Joe Meade assist at 55:13 that leveled the game at one apiece.

However, another surprise attack from the home team put the Green Knights down a goal just under a minute after they had scored the equalizer.

It wouldn't take long for a response, as substitute defender Dominic Lagona scored with his first second half touch off a Joe Anguil assist at 64:04 to bring the score level at 2-2.

Two blocked shots from both teams in the last ten minutes could have seen a game winner, but it finished with honors even between the two sides.

St. Norbert had three times as many shots as Stevens Point, with the Green Knights having 21 shots on goal, with seven of them on frame.

The Green Knights also ousted the debutantes in corner kicks, with St. Norbert having 13 and the home side just five.

Hill and Lagona both scored their second goals of their career for St. Norbert, while 2023 points leader Meade notched his 13th career assist.

St. Norbert faces off against Augsburg University on Sunday at 1 p.m., in what will be the 2024 home opener at Schneider Stadium.
