DE PERE – Dan Wood has been named head coach for ACHA men's hockey, St. Norbert College athletics director Cam Fuller announced.
Wood arrives at St. Norbert after three seasons coaching the ACHA Division 2 team at DePaul University, the same level the Green Knights' program will compete. St. Norbert will launch its ACHA men's hockey team in the 2025-26 academic year.
"We are excited to welcome Dan to our Green Knights' family," Fuller said. "His experience as an accomplished head coach at various levels, including in the ACHA, makes him the right leader. Dan will amplify our four pillars for success – academic, athletic, community and experience – and has the necessary skills to successfully launch our program."
Wood fashioned a 65-27-1 record with the Blue Demons. DePaul went 23-9-1 in 2023-24, being ranked as high as 27th nationally and 12th in the Central Region. The Blue Demons were 24-7-1 in 2022-23, reaching as high as 12th nationally and fifth in the Central Region. DePaul was 19-11-1 in 2021-22, its best record in the previous decade. Wood was named Northern Collegiate Hockey League Coach of the Year following the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
"I'm very excited to join the esteemed St. Norbert athletic department," Wood said. "I look forward to building the ACHA program with the same standards and culture that the incredibly successful NCAA men's and women's teams have had."
Wood is a 2012 graduate of Miami (Ohio) University and played four years of club hockey for the Red Hawks. He also spent 12 years with the hockey program at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill., with 11 years as an assistant coach and one year as the director and head varsity coach. Wood also oversaw strength and conditioning.
