St. Norbert Turned Away at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH - St. Norbert College traveled an hour south to face Lakeland University and was swept in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 6-0 at Muskie Softball Field.

The Green Knights jumped ahead early in the opener, scoring in the top of the first inning when Zoe Zasada doubled with two out and Lilly Haase was hit by a pitch. Addison Race then singled in Zasada. Karleigh Linssen singled to load the bases but St. Norbert could not cash in further.

Lakeland scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and then picked up a pair of unearned runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. St. Norbert would leave two runners on in the fourth and fifth innings and the bases loaded in the seventh inning to finish with a total of 12 left on base for the game.

Haase was 2-for-2, while Zasada and Race were both 2-for-4. Zasada, Haase and Christina Paleka all had doubles for St. Norbert. Race took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

In Game 2, the Green Knights were stopped on just three hits. The Muskies scored three times in the third inning and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull away.

Ava Engwall and Morgan Hansel each doubled for St. Norbert.
