St. Norbert Splits One-Run Games With Rockford

DE PERE - St. Norbert College continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play and split a pair of one-run games in a doubleheader with Rockford University at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex. The Green Knights won the opener 1-0 before dropping the nightcap 3-2.

The Green Knights won the pitchers' duel in the opener, with St. Norbert's Addison Race outtwirling Rockford's Mariah Martinez. Race allowed just three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Martinez allowed three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Neither team made an error.

St. Norbert scored the game's only run when Ava Engwall led off the fourth inning with a single. Hallei Mleziva pinch ran for Engwall and was sacrificed to second by Race. Karleigh Linssen's double to center field then brought around Mleziva to score.

Rockford would get a baserunner in each of the fifth and sixth innings but would get set down in order in the seventh as St. Norbert closed out the win.

Linssen was 2-for-2 with a double to account for one-third of the game's total hits.

Rockford would jump ahead quickly in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Green Knights answered with a Christina Paleka RBI single in the bottom of the first. St. Norbert would tie things up in the fifth inning when Allison Ardito led off the frame with a triple and then scored two hitters later on a wild pitch. The Regents pulled ahead with one run in the top of the sixth. The Green Knights would get runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings but did not score.

Ardito was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Paleka was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lilly Haase was 2-for-2. Cassie Schultz took the loss, allowing eight hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched.
