WAUWATOSA - St. Norbert College had a late rally to salvage a split with Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
The Green Knights dropped the opener 9-6 before coming back to win the second game 6-4 in 10 innings.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert rallied from a 4-1 deficit by scoring one run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh to extend the game. The Green Knights then eventually won it with a pair of runs in the top of the tenth.
The Green Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when
Karleigh Linssen doubled with one out and then came home on a two-out single by
Allison Ardito. The Warriors got the run back with a tally in their half of the second. The score would remain tied 1-1 until Wisconsin Lutheran broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
St. Norbert chipped away in the sixth when
Zoe Zasada's two-out single brought around
Andrianna Volz to make it 4-2. The Green Knights started their seventh-inning uprising when
Christina Paleka singled with one out.
Kathryn Bergin then singled to right field and the ball bounded away resulting in Paleka scoring and Bergin advancing to third base.
Addison Race then singled to bring home pinch-runner
Morgan Jarvi to knot it at 4-4. St. Norbert would load the bases but couldn't pull ahead.
The Green Knights loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth but didn't score. St. Norbert then broke through in the tenth when
Lilly Haase reached on a dropped pop up with one out. Following a groundout another Wisconsin Lutheran error kept the inning alive. Linssen then singled and, coupled with an outfield error, Bergin and Paleka scored for a 6-4 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran would not seriously threaten in the bottom of the tenth.
Linssen was 4-for-6, while Ardito, Zasada, Bergin, Paleka and Volz all had two hits apiece as St. Norbert pounded out 17 hits.
Amber Johanek twirled three scoreless innings of relief to get the win for the Green Knights, yielding just two hits with two strikeouts.
In the opener, St. Norbert got off to a hot start scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Haase had a two-run single to score Zasada and Ardito.
Morgan Hansel followed later in the inning with a three-run double to plate
Nicole Condon, Paleka and Haase for a 5-0 lead.
Wisconsin Lutheran would answer with four runs in the bottom of the first and added a single run in the second inning and three more runs in the third inning for a 9-4 lead. Haase would hit a solo home run for St. Norbert in the fifth inning for the game's final scoring.
Haase was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Paleka, Zasada and Ardito were also all 2-for-4.
