Green Knights Tamed By Benedictine

DE PERE - St. Norbert College returned to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play and was swept by Bendictine University in a doubleheader by scores of 12-2 and 12-6 at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights fell behind early in Game 1 when the Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Benedictine added five runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead 12-0. St. Norbert scored twice in the fourth inning, Morgan Hansel and Meredith Manke each had RBI singles.

Ava Engwall had St. Norbert's lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. Addison Race took the loss in the circle for the Green Knights.

In Game 2, St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead when Karleigh Linssen's RBI double brought home Engwall. Benedictine scored three runs in the top of the second inning but the Green Knights got a run back in its half of the frame when Allison Ardito's triple brought home Hansel. The Eagles would score three more times in the top of the third, but St. Norbert got to within 6-4 when Christina Paleka stroked a two-run double to score Engwall and Nicole Condon.

Benedictine scored three times in the fifth inning and added three more in the seventh inning to pull away. The Green Knights scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Hansel drove in a pair with a single.

Linssen was 3-for-4, while Engwall was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Paleka was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Ardito was also 2-for-3.
