Home Opener Results In Split For Green Knights

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened at home with a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Dominican University, winning the opener 5-3 before dropping the nightcap 15-4 at Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

Dominican took the lead in the opener with a run in the top of the third inning. The Green Knights would tie it up in the fourth inning. Levi Crosswell singled and was sacrificed to second. Carson Krumrei singled to put runners at the corners and Matt Schuch followed with a sacrifice fly to tie it at 1-1.

St. Norbert would take a 3-1 lead on a two-run home run by Crosswell in the fifth inning. Dominican would tie it at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the sixth, with the Green Knights limiting the damage by getting out of the inning with the bases loaded. St. Norbert rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Krumrei was hit on an 0-2 pitch to lead things off and was sacrificed to second. Devin Geary followed with a triple to right-center field and then came home on a Jaden Holgado single.

Dominican would put two runners on in the seventh inning, but Schuch made a diving catch in right field to end the game.

Crosswell was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Krumrei was 2-for-2. Noah Chmielewski got the win with a scoreless inning of relief, while Marty Walsh threw a scoreless seventh inning for his fourth save of the season.

In the nightcap, Dominican took control early with three runs in the first inning and one more in the third inning. The Green Knights scored in the fourth inning when Holgado stole home on the back end of a double steal. The Stars scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-1 lead. St. Norbert scored in the bottom of the seventh when Crosswell's RBI double scored Will DeBruin.

Dominican broke the game open with four runs in the eighth inning and five more in the ninth. St. Norbert got a run in the eighth inning on a Matt Perry solo home run and and unearned run in the ninth inning.

St. Norbert finished with six hits. Cole Bzdawka was charged with the loss, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched.
