St. Norbert Sweeps Curry Behind Rally

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – St. Norbert College picked up a doubleheader sweep of Curry College thanks to a late rally in the nightcap, topping the Colonels 15-10 and 5-4 at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Green Knights trailed 4-1 in the sixth inning of the nightcap but then got two runs on three hits in their half of the inning. Devin Geary had an RBI single to plate Will DeBruin and Jaden Holgado followed to score Carson Krumrei to make it 5-3. St. Norbert would leave the bases loaded in the sixth but stayed in the game by retiring Curry in order in the top of the seventh. Levi Crosswell and DeBruin drew walks to open the inning and Matt Schuch's bunt was good for single to load the bases with no outs. Krumrei singled to left to tie the game and Tyler Pigeon followed with a bunt single of his own to push across the winning run.

St. Norbert scored the game's first run when Crosswell singled to bring home Geary in the first inning. Curry scored twice in the second and once each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead.

Holgado was 2-for-3 while Geary and Pigeon were both 2-for-4. Danny Heise earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
 
In the opener, St. Norbert jumped ahead with a run in the first inning on Crosswell's sacrifice fly. The Green Knights tacked on two more runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Holgado and Trevor Reinhardt.
 
St. Norbert pushed five runs across in the top of the third inning. A.J. Kisting brought in the first run on a bases-loaded walk, while Evan Calderon brought in a run on a grounder. Will DeBruin scored on a wild pitch and Geary followed with a two-run single for an 8-0 lead. Curry would get three runs back in the third and one in the fourth to halve its deficit.
 
St. Norbert scored in the fifth when Kisting scored on a wild pitch. The Colonels responded with a three-run fifth to get within 9-7. The Green Knights scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Krumrei plated the first run with a sacrifice fly to score Crosswell. Geary then stroked a two-run double and Holgado followed with a two-run single. Reinhardt brought in the last run on an RBI single to take a 15-7 lead. Curry would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth and loaded the bases with two outs but would not get closer.
 
The Green Knights banged out 17 hits. Geary went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Holgado was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Reinhardt was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Kisting was 2-for-3 with four runs scored. DeBruin and Matt Perry were both 2-for-4, with DeBruin scoring twice and Perry once.
 
Cole Bzdawka earned the win, allowing nine hits and four runs in four innings pitched. Marty Walsh worked the last 1 1/3 innings to pick up a save.
