Late Rally Keys St. Norbert Split

CLERMONT, Fla. - St. Norbert College used a late rally to finish a split of its two games at the Rebel Games at Hancock Park.

The Green Knights opened their day with a 12-3 loss to Macalester College before bouncing back to top University of Chicago 4-3.

St. Norbert trailed Chicago 3-2 entering the top of the seventh inning but scored the eventual game-winning runs when Lilly Haase's two-out, two-run single pushed across Andrianna Volz and Allison Ardito for a 4-3 lead.

The Green Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Christina Paleka had an RBI single to score Ardito, who had led off the game with a double. Chicago responded with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning. St. Norbert got a run back in the third inning when Ardito reached on a single and later came around to score on a wild pitch.

St. Norbert pitcher Addison Race settled in, retiring 16 of the last 17 hitters she faced and not allowing a hit in the last five innings. Race allowed six hits and struck out five in the complete-game effort.

Ardito was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Karleigh Linssen was 2-for-3 with a double.

Against Macalester, the Scots scored three runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. St. Norbert answered with two runs in the third inning on Nicole Condon's two-run double. Macalester scored four runs in the fourth inning and pulled away with five runs in the top of the seventh. Haase's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning closed out the scoring.

Condon was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Abby Radtke took the loss, allowing seven runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched.
