AUBURNDALE, Fla. - St. Norbert College put together a nine-run eighth inning en route to a 10-3 win over SUNY Canton in a game at Lake Myrtle Park.
The Green Knights (3-8) entered the top of the eighth trailing 2-1 and had just two hits entering the frame. St. Norbert then pounded out eight hits during the uprising to take control.
Devin Geary led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an errant pickoff throw.
Jaden Holgado's single up the middle knotted the score at 2-2.
Trevor Reinhardt and
Levi Crosswell singled to load the bases.
Carson Krumrei and
A.J. Kisting were then both hit by pitches to force in runs and give the Green Knights a two-run lead.
Evan Calderon plated two runs with a single to right and
Tyler Pigeon's squeeze bunt made it 7-2. Geary doubled to drive in a run, followed by a Holgado RBI single. Reinhardt's double to center field brought Holgado around to score and finish the rally with a 10-2 lead.
St. Norbert plated the game's first run in the sixth inning when Crosswell's groundout scored Holgado. Canton (0-8) took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Kangaroos also scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Holgado led St. Norbert offensively, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Geary and Reinhardt were both 2-for-4 with a double, with Geary scoring two runs.
Marty Walsh got the win in relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts in one inning pitched.
