DE PERE - St. Norbert College advanced to the championship game of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 3-0 win over Aurora University at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (21-6-1), who set a school record with their 21st win of the season, await the winner of Saturday's Adrian College-Lake Forest College semifinal game. The finalists will meet for the Slaats Cup championship on Saturday, March 2.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora 14-4 in the first period behind three power-play chances but the first 20 minutes remained scoreless. The Green Knights broke through at 18:31 of the second period when
Jo Mahlum registered her 13th goal of the season off assists from
Courtnie Hogan and
Claire Healy.
St. Norbert added to its lead early in the third period when Hogan posted her 15th goal of the season just 40 seconds into the final stanza, with
Natalie Hogan and Mahlum assisting. The Green Knights gained a tack-on goal when
Kelsey Ross scored for the ninth time this campaign off a
Lexi Bonfe helper with 8:50 gone by in the final period.
Mahlum and
Courtnie Hogan each had one goal and one assist for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora 35-15.
Brynn Waisman made 15 saves to get the shutout for the Green Knights, while Marie Dedert made 32 stops for the Spartans.
The Green Knights were 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Spartans were 0-for-2.
