DE PERE - St. Norbert College advanced to a semifinal in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 3-2 overtime win over Trine University at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (20-6-1) got the game-winning goal when
Jo Mahlum scored off assists from
Gabby Holtz and
Natalie Hogan at the 3:23 mark of the extra session. It was Mahlum's 12th goal of the season.
St. Norbert will face Aurora University in its semifinal game at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Hogan scored at 4:38. St. Norbert doubled its lead when
Courtnie Hogan potted her 14th goal of the season 44 seconds into the second period. The Thunder responded when Payton Hans buried a pair of goals at 2:08 and 2:34 of the second period to knot the score at 2-2.
The score would hold up through the end of regulation time despite four St. Norbert power-play opportunities.
Gabby Holtz assisted on all three St. Norbert goals for three points. Both Hogans had one goal and one assist for two points.
Courtnie Hogan's two points gave her 33 for the season, setting a new St. Norbert season record.
St. Norbert outshot Trine 47-18.
Brynn Waisman made 16 saves for the Green Knights, while Ella Park made 44 stops for the Thunder.
The Green Knights were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Thunder did not have a power-play opportunity as St. Norbert was penalty free.
