MEQUON – St. Norbert College got off to a winning start in conference play, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin 54-44 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Green Knights (5-1, 1-0 NACC) led for a majority of the contest, and grew their lead to double digits in the second half after leading by six going into the half.
Three pointers from Rose Hahn and Emma Morrisey (pictured) gave St. Norbert a 12-4 lead to open the game, but the Falcons would go on a 8-2 run to end the first quarter, giving the Green Knights just a two-point lead going into the second quarter.
Concordia Wisconsin took the lead for several possessions in the second quarter, but St. Norbert would find balance later in the period. Two three pointers from Casey Jepson on consecutive possessions put the Green Knights up by six as they broke the deadlock.
The Green Knights opened the second half on a 6-2 run, with Avery Bierowski giving them the biggest lead in the game to that point with a 10-point lead. St. Norbert was also excellent on defense to open the half, not allowing a field goal until the middle of the period.
The final period was a struggle for both teams, as neither one could find consistent baskets. However, Jepson's three pointer was crucial and gave St. Norbert a 54-39 lead with eight minutes to play. The Falcons scored a three with 3:21 left to play, but it would be the last points they would find for the remainder of the game.
St. Norbert shot 43.1 percent from the field (22-for-51). Morrisey led the Green Knights with 15 points and six rebounds, while Jepson had 12 points and four rebounds. Hahn also finished the game with double digits, scoring 10 points.
The Falcons shot 24.1 percent (14-for-58), making nearly a quarter of their points from the free throw line. Jayden Ross led Concordia Wisconsin with eight points and five rebounds.
