Power-Play Goals Lead St. Norbert to Sweep

DE PERE – St. Norbert College overcame an early deficit against College of St. Scholastica in a 2-1 win, scoring on the power play twice to open the season with a sweep over the Saints at the Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights, who put up 50 shots on goal against the Saints in the first game, were held to a tight contest on home ice. St. Norbert had 18 shots in the first period, but could not find the back of the net.

St. Scholastica took the lead from an Addie Mach goal at the 7:54 mark in the second period, giving the Saints their first goal of the season after being shut out the night before.

St. Norbert would tie the game just before the end of the period off a power play goal at 17:30, as Sydney Zurawik scored her first goal of the season, with the assist coming from Lisa LaRoche (pictured).

After yet another close period in the third, St. Norbert would find the winning goal off another powerplay, with LaRoche getting her second goal of the series and season at 16:20. Abby Pieper and Kelsey Ross provided the assists.

St. Norbert outshot the Saints 35-32, with 15 of the Green Knights' shots coming in the second period. St. Norbert would also go 2-for-3 on the power play, while St. Scholastica went 0-for-2.
