St. Norbert Comes Out to Play Against Warriors

DE PERE - St. Norbert College came out with a strong first two sets en route to a 3-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (12-10, 6-1 NACC) won their fifth straight match by topping the Warriors 25-17, 25-14, 18-25, 25-22.

St. Norbert fired out of the gate in Set 1 with a 6-0 lead, eventually building an 18-8 lead en route to a 1-0 lead. The Green Knights took a 9-7 lead in Set 2 before going on a 5-0 run keyed by kills from Alyssa Mills and Mari Szews. Following a 15-9 lead, St. Norbert went on another 5-0 run for a 20-9 edge and an eventual 2-0 lead.

The third set was tied 12-12 before Wisconsin Lutheran went on a 6-1 run to take an 18-13 lead, with the Warriors getting to within 2-1. St. Norbert trailed 15-9 in Set 4 before mounting a 7-2 run to get to within 17-16. Wisconsin Lutheran got a point but St. Norbert then went on a 5-0 run, pulling ahead 21-18 behind a pair of Maleigha Kovalaske kills. St. Norbert led 23-22 before a Warriors service error and a kill by Alli Clark closed out the match win.

St. Norbert hit .162 for the match, getting 45 kills against 22 errors in 142 attempts. Mills had 10 kills, while Szews, Kovalaske and Anna Kudick all posting eight apiece. Heidi Colburn had 36 assists. Mills had two service aces.

Kara Sowinski head a team-high 15 digs, with Lauren Borchardt added 13 digs. Mills and Andrianna Volz had 10 digs apiece. Mills had four blocks, with Szews and Clark tallying two apiece.

Wisconsin Lutheran hit .069, with 38 kills and 28 errors in 144 attempts. Lydia Biggin led the Warriors with 10 kills.
