Green Knights Turn Away Rockford In Sweep

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the sixth time in its last seven matches with a perfunctory 3-0 sweep of Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (11-10, 5-1 NACC) turned away the Regents 25-15, 25-16, 25-9.

St. Norbert wasted little time taking control jumping out to a 10-2 lead in Set 1. The Green Knights eventually built a 21-9 lead before closing out a 1-0 lead. Rockford took its only lead of the match when it scored the first point of Set 2, but St. Norbert rattled off a 6-0 run to take a 6-1 lead. The Regents crept back to within 16-12 before St. Norbert responded with a 5-0 run and a 21-12 edge and an eventual 2-0 lead.

The Green Knights held a 10-8 lead in Set 3 but another 6-0 run for a 16-8 lead took all the mystery out of the outcome. After a St. Norbert service error, the Green Knights scored the final nine points of the match, capped on the last two points on a pair of Carley Varoni service aces.

St. Norbert hit .300 for the match, with 48 kills and 15 errors in 110 attempts. Mari Szews posted 11 kills against one error in 15 attempts in two sets. Maleigha Kovalaske had 10 kills in just two sets. Alyssa Mills had eight kills, also in two sets, while Lauren Borchardt added six kills. Heidi Colburn had 31 assists. Maddie Kitowski had three service aces, while Borchardt, Colburn and Varoni all had two apiece.

Kara Sowinski finished with 12 digs to lead the St. Norbert back row. Borchardt added 10 digs. Sophia Prins and Clare Williams each had one block.

Rockford hit .010 with 15 kills and 14 errors in 100 attempts. Madisen Perry had a team-high six kills for the Regents.
