EAU CLAIRE - St. Norbert College never trailed and pulled away late to post a 5-1 win over nationally ranked UW-Eau Claire in the opener of a two-game non-conference series at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Green Knights (11-3) got 39 saves from goaltender
Brynn Waisman to beat Eau Claire (10-4), which entered the game ranked No. 10 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll.
Following a scoreless first period, St. Norbert got on the board midway through the second when
Naomi Balon found the cage at 9:42.
Grace Wittkopf followed at 12:29 to give the Green Knights a 2-0 lead. Eau Claire got a goal back at 19:44, when Maddie Hulter sent everyone into the second intermission with a 2-1 score.
The one-goal margin held up until the game's final five minutes, when St. Norbert scored three times in a 55-second span.
Abbie Tollefson scored at 15:31, followed by
Lexi Bonfe at 16:13. Tollefson scored again just 13 seconds later to salt away the win.
Tollefson added an assist along with her two goals to finish with a three-point game, the only multi-point game for the Green Knights.
Eau Claire outshot St. Norbert 40-11, including a 19-2 margin in the second period and 12-3 in the third period - with all five Green Knights' shots in the last two periods finding the pay window.
St. Norbert was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Eau Claire was 0-for-5.
