St. Norbert Finishes Perfect January

DE PERE - St. Norbert College wrapped up a January that saw the Green Knights go 9-0 with a 74-48 win over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (18-3) posted their first their first unbeaten month with at least nine wins since January 2002. It is the fourth month that has seen St. Norbert go at least 9-0 in a month in program history.

St. Norbert fell beyond 3-0 after Marian's first possession but then went on a 9-0 run thanks to six points from Evan Glaser and a 3-pointer by Garrett Grzesk. The Green Knights held a single-digit lead with the Sabres cutting their deficit to one twice, the latter at 28-27 with 3:44 left in the first half. St. Norbert then closed the half on an 8-0 run. Jamison Nickolai had a fastbreak layup, Aidan Harrington followed with a hoop and then Nickolai had a steal and dunk for a 34-27 lead. Kyle Krueger's two free throws sent the Green Knights into halftime leading 36-27.

The Green Knights led 47-39 with 11:45 remaining before going on a 16-3 run to salt the game away. Connor Beauchamp and Glaser each had four points on the front end of the run, while Nickolai closed it out with seven points for a 64-42 lead with 5:44 to go.

St. Norbert, which held a commanding 44-20 rebounding advantage, got 19 points and eight rebounds from Glaser. Nickolai posted his second-straight double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Grzesk added 12 points and five rebounds.

Marian shot 35.4 percent (17-for-48) from the floor and was 7-for-27 (25.9 percent) from beyond the three-point arc, incdluing 0-for-12 from distance in the second half. Gavin Jahns led the Sabres with 11 points.
