Big Second-Half Run Propels St. Norbert

CHICAGO - St. Norbert College held Illinois Institute of Technology scoreless for a stretch of nearly 12 minutes in the second half en route to a 67-47 win in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Keating Sports Center.

The Green Knights (15-3, 10-1 NACC) avenged their only conference loss, which came at the hands of the Scarlet Hawks in a 92-76 setback on Nov. 29 in De Pere.

St. Norbert trailed 38-35 with 14:52 remaining after Illinois Tech's Caden Gigstad converted a conventional three-point play. The host would not score again until the Green Knights had built a 58-38 lead, completing an impressive 23-0 run over a span of 11:42 when an Evan Glaser free throw finished the spurt. The Scarlet Hawks got a free throw with 2:55 left and finally snapped their dry spell with a hoop with 2:05 to go, a stretch of 12:47 without scoring from the floor.

Jamison Nickolai's 3-pointer with 10:34 to go put St. Norbert ahead 43-38 and gave the Green Knights a bit of breathing room. Aidan Harrington then hit a pair of free throws, and Nickolai followed with a jumper and another 3. Brandt Wilson then had a pair of free throws and a layup, followed by a Nickolai 3-pointer with 3:56 to go for a 57-38 lead.

St. Norbert trailed for much of the first half before finally taking a late lead on a Connor Pytleski 3-pointer with 1:08 left. The Scarlet Hawks scored the last four points of the half to lead 30-29 at halftime.

The Green Knights shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the floor but held a 39-29 rebounding edge and had committed just nine fouls and eight turnovers. Nickolai had 17 points, with 15 coming in the second half, along with eight rebounds. Carter Gebler had 13 points. Pytleski had 13 points - with 12 coming in the first half - and made all four of his three-point field goal attempts.

Illinois Tech shot 34 percent (17-for-50) from the floor. Garrison Carter led the Scarlet Hawks with 10 points.
