RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College improved to 6-0 on the road this season as the Green Knights topped Concordia University Chicago 68-55 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (13-3, 8-1 NACC) remained in a first-place tie in the NACC race with Wisconsin Lutheran College halfway through the conference schedule by holding the Cougars (7-8, 4-6) to 29 points below their season scoring average entering the game of 83.6 points per game.
St. Norbert never trailed, and after a 2-2 tie scored eight-straight points for a 10-2 lead.
Garrett Grzesk converted a traditional three-point play and followed with a 3-pointer, while
Evan Glaser's jumper pushed St. Norbert ahead. A Concordia basket at the 15:07 mark made it 10-4, but the Green Knights then went on an 11-0 run over the next 5:38 to take a 21-4 lead. A pair of
Brandt Wilson baskets and a Glaser layup finished off the run. St. Norbert continued to hold Concordia at bay and
Carter Gebler's basket late in the period sent the Green Knights into halftime with a 34-14 lead.
Concordia was able to work its way back into the game by getting to within 43-32 with 12:17 left, but St. Norbert went on an 11-2 run to take a 54-34 lead on an
Aidan Harrington 3-pointer with 8:24 left. The Green Knights led 59-40 with 4:58 left after a Grzesk 3-pointer, but the Cougars mounted a last-ditch rally to get to within 10 at 65-55 with 1:39 left. St. Norbert would hold Concordia scoreless the rest of the way to close out the win.
St. Norbert shot 53.3 percent (24-for-45) from the floor but was 14-for-24 (58.3 percent) at the free-throw line and committed 23 turnovers. Glaser had a team-high 12 points, while Gebler added 11 and
Kyle Krueger and
Jamison Nickolai had 10 points apiece.
Concordia shot 36.1 percent (22-for-61) from the floor and 4-for-24 (16.7 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Jacob Collicott led the Cougars with 13 points.
