DE PERE - St. Norbert College could never get untracked offensively and ended up falling 67-59 to Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights converted just 29.9 percent of their field-goal attempts, making 20 of 67 shots from the floor, and never led except in the game's early stages.
St. Norbert scored on three of its first four possessions when
Emma Morrisey connected on a 3-pointer and layup sandwiched around a
Taylor Thiry basket for an early 7-2 lead. Rockford answered with a 14-2 run to take a 14-9 lead with 3:12 left in the first quarter and the Regents went into the first break leading 19-15.
Rockford maintained its lead throughout the second quarter, with St. Norbert getting to within two at 26-24 after a
Marnie Kahl hoop with 4:36 left. The Regents responded with a 6-0 run to take an eight-point lead before settling on a 36-29 edge at halftime.
St. Norbert got its deficit down to two points after
Rose Hahn converted a conventional three-point play with 3:13 to go in the third quarter to trail 47-45. Rockford again answered with a 6-1 run to lead 53-46 through three quarters.
The Green Knights again got to two points with 4:04 left after an
Oakley Witteck free throw brought the score to 53-55, but Rockford went on an 8-0 run over the next 3:03 to take a 63-53 lead with 1:01 left. A pair of 3-pointers by Thiry and Morrisey brought the Green Knights to within 63-59 with 40 seconds left, and after a backcourt violation St. Norbert had a chance to get closer but the next shot was awry to effectively seal the outcome.
Morrisey finished with 19 points, while Hahn posted a career-high 15 points. Thiry added 11 points.
Rockford shot 40.4 percent (23-for-57) from the floor but was 20-for-36 (55.6 percent) from inside the three-point arc. Audrina Terhune led the Regents with 23 points, while Nia Wilkerson came off the bench to add 14 points.
