DE PERE - St. Norbert College wasted little time in picking up its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season with a 3-0 win over Alverno College at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights topped the Inferno 25-10, 25-6, 25-4 in a match that lasted a tidy 53 minutes. The 20 points allowed was two more than the school record for fewest allowed in a match of 18, set against Mount Mary on Aug. 30, 2003.
St. Norbert and Alverno were tied 6-6 in Set 1 and the stanza was still in question at 12-8 before the Green Knights went on an 8-0 run to take a 20-8 lead, fueled by three kills from
Brooke Clement and two from
Alli Clark. St. Norbert led Set 2 by a 12-6 margin before the host walked in the set with 13 straight points, which included five service aces from
Lauren Borchardt. The Green Knights jumped out to a 13-1 lead in Set 3 and closed out the win from there.
The Green Knights hit a robust .441, with 36 kills against six errors in 68 attempts. Clement had 12 kills in 17 attempts against no errors for a .706 hitting percentage.
Alyssa Mills added eight kills and
Rylie Gregg seven.
Ellie Hartson had 19 assists and
Heidi Colburn chipped in 11.
St. Norbert finished with 19 service aces, with Borchardt finishing with six, Clement five and
Anna Kudick three. Eight different Green Knights had at least one ace.
Erin Eggers had 18 digs, while
Molly Rader finished with two blocks.
Alverno hit minus-.070, with 10 kills and 15 errors in 71 attempts. Rolin West had nine of the Inferno's terminations.
