CHICAGO - St. Norbert College split its final two matches at the North Park University Windy City Classic, topping Pacific (Ore.) University 3-1 before dropping the de facto tournament championship match to North Park 3-2 at North Park Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (2-1) topped Pacific 25-16, 25-16, 15-25, 25-18 before falling to the Vikings 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 15-5.
Against Pacific, the Green Knights went on a 10-0 run to turn a 7-6 lead into a 17-6 advantage and go on to the set win. St. Norbert jumped out to an 8-1 lead in Set 2 and took a 2-0 lead. Pacific turned the tables in the third set by taking a 12-0 lead, but the Green Knights closed out the win with by taking a 7-3 lead in Set 4 and holding a steady edge until the match ended.
St. Norbert hit .207, with 56 kills and 22 errors in 164 attempts.
Brooke Clement had 17 kills, while
Alyssa Mills added 16.
Heidi Colburn finished with 29 assists and
Ellie Hartson added 17. Clement had five service aces.
Erin Eggers had 24 digs, Clement 19 digs and Mills 10.
Against North Park, the defending College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champion, the Green Knights trailed 6-1 in Set 1 and didn't recover. St. Norbert found itself down 20-10 in Set 2 but came back to within 23-21 before the Vikings responded to take a 2-0 lead. St. Norbert never trailed in Set 3. The Green Knights were behind 23-21 in Set 4 before scoring four-straight points to level the match, getting kills by Mills and Colburn and an ace from Clement. North Park held a 5-4 lead in Set 5 before going on a 7-0 run to salt away the win.
St. Norbert hit .108, with 48 kills and 28 errors in 185 attempts.
Rylie Gregg had 15 kills while Clement added 11. Colburn had 31 assists. Eggers collected 33 digs, with Clement adding 16, Colburn 13 and Gregg 10.
Molly Rader had five blocks, with Clement adding four and Gregg and
Alli Clark three apiece.
Gregg and Clement were named to the All-Tournament Team.
