DE PERE - St. Norbert College salvaged a doubleheader split against Marian University in a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex. The Green Knights dropped the opener 8-1 before taking the nightcap 3-2.
St. Norbert fell behind 1-0 in Game 2 when the Sabres scored an unearned run in the top of the first. The Green Knights got the run back in the bottom of the inning when
Nicole Condon scored on a fielding error. Marian got another unearned run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. St. Norbert responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Elizabeth Stuebs' grounder to first eventually plated
Meghan Gonnering to tie the score at 2-2.
Allison Ardito's flare single to right then brought home
Meredith Manke for a 3-2 lead.
Marian would be retired in order in the sixth and had a runner reach with one out in the seventh but did not score.
Stuebs scattered six hits without a walk in a complete-game win, striking out four. The Green Knights were held to six hits, with Gonnering's leading double in the fifth the only extra-base hit.
In the opener, Marian scored one unearned run in the first and seven more unearned runs in the second to take an 8-0 lead. St. Norbert scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Ardito.
Ardito and Stuebs were both 2-for-4 for the Green Knights, who had seven hits.
Addison Race took the loss, allowing nine hits and no earned runs in a complete-game outing.
