DE PERE - St. Norbert College faced off with longtime rival UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference doubleheader and dropped both games by scores of 8-1 and 4-1 at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.
The Green Knights fell behind early in the opener, with the Pointers scoring four times in the second inning, once in the third inning and once in the fourth inning. St. Norbert posted its only run in the sixth inning when
Allison Ardito's double brought around
Meredith Manke. Stevens Point added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh close out the scoring.
Christina Paleka finished with two of the Green Knights' five hits.
Elizabeth Stuebs took the loss in two innings pitched for St. Norbert.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert starter
Addison Race held the Pointers scoreless through five innings as the Green Knights broke through with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Paleka walked to lead off the inning and
Zoe Zasada promptly followed with a sharp single to the right-center gap. The ball was misplayed by the Stevens Point outfield allowing Paleka to come around to score.
Race retired the first two Stevens Point hitters in the top of the sixth, but the Pointers mounted a rally on a walk, an infield single, a pinch-hit single and a passed ball to take a 2-1 lead. Stevens Point then got a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh to salt the game away. The Green Knights did not get a baserunner in each of the last two innings.
The Green Knights were held to just three hits in game two. Race took the tough loss in the circle, scattering nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
