Green Knights Face Nationally Ranked CUW

DE PERE - St. Norbert College faced nationally ranked Concordia University Wisconsin and was swept by scores of 7-4 and 10-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights fell behind early in the opener when the Falcons, ranked No. 15 in the NFCA Division III Top 25, scored five runs in the top of the first inning. St. Norbert got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Paige Diercks had an RBI double. Concordia scored a run in the top of the third but St. Norbert answered again on a solo home run from Christina Paleka in the fourth.

The Falcons added a tack-on run in the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead. Elizabeth Stuebs then had an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth, and Meredith Manke's RBI grounder in the sixth brought the Green Knights to within 7-4, but they would get no closer.

Paleka was 2-for-3 for St. Norbert, which had seven hits. Addison Race took the loss, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.

In the nightcap, the Green Knights were held to one hit by Concordia ace Gina Followell, who struck out 11. Diercks' second-inning single was St. Norbert's lone safety. Stuebs took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in three innings pitched.
