DE PERE - St. Norbert College battled back to gain a split with Benedictine University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex. The Green Knights lost the opener 6-4 before taking the nightcap 6-5.
St. Norbert fell behind 5-0 through three innings of the opener, with the Eagles scoring once in the first and twice each in the second and third innings. Benedictine held its 5-0 lead into the sixth inning until the Green Knights broke through in the bottom half the inning.
Addison Race's two-out double brought in
Elizabeth Stuebs. Benedictine got a run in the top of the seventh before the Green Knights rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Meredith Manke had an RBI single to make it 6-2, while
Allison Ardito had a two-run single to bring it to within 6-4, but the Green Knights would get no closer.
Manke finished 2-for-3 for the Green Knights, who had seven hits. Race took the loss, who scattered 11 hits with three earned runs and one walk and one strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Benedictine scored three runs in the top of the first inning. St. Norbert scored twice in the second inning when
Christina Paleka smacked a two-run home run to cut the deficit to one run. The Green Knights had a big uprising in the fifth inning, getting four two-out RBIs. Stuebs got it started with an RBI triple, with Race putting St. Norbert ahead with an RBI single.
Lilly Haase followed with a two-run single to put the St. Norbert up 6-3.
Benedictine scored twice in the sixth, but the Green Knights turned a double play in the seventh to end the game and hold on.
Haase was 3-for-3 and Paleka was 2-for-3, and each had two RBIs. Stuebs got the win, scattering 10 hits and striking out one in a complete-game victory.
