DE PERE - St. Norbert College picked up another big win in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference race with a 7-2 triumph over Wisconsin Lutheran College at Green Bay Tennis Center.
The Green Knights (8-6, 4-1 NACC) clinched a berth in the NACC Tournament with the win. The victory also sets up a crucial dual this coming Saturday (April 8) at Milwaukee School of Engineering. A win over the Raiders would move the Green Knights into a share of first place with one match remaining. St. Norbert has never finished above third place in the conference standings in program history.
St. Norbert got off to a solid start by sweeping all three doubles points.
Brett Daniels and
Adam Stacho defeated Asa White and Aidan Newberg 8-3 at No. 1.
Joe Pellechia and
David Vandenberg bested Jon Kannenberg and Zadic Torline 8-3 at No. 2, while
Anthony Michels and
Brian Coulter topped Matt Bass and Bruce Halvorsen 8-3 at No. 3.
Daniels outlasted Newberg in three sets at No. 1 singles, posting a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win. Stacho won a pair of tiebreakers over White at No. 2 singles, winning 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3). Michels swept Kannenberg 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, while Vandenberg gained a 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 win over Halvorsen at No. 5.
