Green Knights Battle Back For Split

DE PERE - St. Norbert College battled back to gain a split of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Lakeland University, losing the opener 4-3 before winning the nightcap 4-0 at Miron Construction Field at the Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

St. Norbert's Elizabeth Stuebs scattered eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a complete-game shutout effort in the win. Lakeland loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, but Stuebs coaxed a double-play ground ball to end the game.

The game was scoreless until to the bottom of the fourth inning. Stuebs led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a ground out. She then scored from third on an infield error. The Green Knights added three runs in the fifth inning. Nicole Condon singled to lead off the inning and Allison Ardito walked with two outs. Stuebs' single up the middle made it 2-0. Addison Race then followed with a two-run triple off the left-field fence to plate two more runs.

The Green Knights had just four hits in the win, with Stuebs going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In the opener, Lakeland scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. The Muskies added an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning for a 4-0 lead. St. Norbert broke through in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs. The first run scored on an error and Race's first two-run triple of the day brought St. Norbert within a run, but it couldn't push the equalizer across home plate.

St. Norbert had just two hits in the opener, with Skylar Hall striking out six with no walks. Race took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
