DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't slow down UW-Stevens Point in the last four innings as the Green Knights dropped an 18-7 decision to the Pointers in a non-conference game at Van Alstine Field at the Mel Nicks Sports Complex.
The Green Knights had a 4-3 lead through five innings before each team scored three runs in the sixth inning for a 7-6 St. Norbert edge. Stevens Point broke the game open with a six-run seventh and followed up with three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.
St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a
Peyton Just RBI single and
Carson Krumrei drove in a run on a grounder. Stevens Point scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to knot the game at 2-2, but the Green Knights got a run in the fourth on a
Devin Geary RBI single. Each team scored a single run in the fifth, with St. Norbert scoring on a
Trevor Reinhardt RBI single.
The Pointers scored three times in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead, but the Green Knights rallied on a two-run double by Geary and an RBI single by
Jaden Holgado. Stevens Point then scored six times on two hits in the seventh inning and pulled away from there.
St. Norbert finished with 16 hits. Geary was 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Holgado and
Caden Uhlenbrauck were also both 3-for-5. Reinhardt was 2-for-3. Miles Freidman took the loss in relief for the Green Knights.
