DE PERE - St. Norbert College played its first home games of the season and dropped a doubleheader to Illinois Institute of Technology by scores of 9-4 and 7-3 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action at Van Alstine Field.
Illinois Tech jumped ahead 3-0 in the opener with a trio of runs in the top of the first inning. The Green Knights got a run back in the bottom of the first inning when
Caden Uhlenbrauck drove in
Jaden Holgado on a single. The Scarlet Hawks added a run in each of the second and third innings to take a 5-1 lead.
St. Norbert scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Ben Boda posted an RBI single in the fourth and
Devin Geary scored in the fifth on a double-play grounder to cut it to 5-3. Illinois Tech scored twice in the sixth inning and one each in the seventh and eighth to take a 9-3 lead. The Green Knights scored a run in the bottom of the ninth on a
Trevor Cornell RBI single.
The Green Knights had 10 hits, with Geary, Holgado and Uhlenbrauck all going 2-for-4.
Luke Steebs took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing four earned runs in five innings pitched.
In the nightcap, the Scarlet Hawks scored two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Geary drove in a run in the second on a sacrifice fly to put St. Norbert on the board. Illinois Tech scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead. The Green Knights scored twice in the fourth inning when
Sebastien Dubois and
Trevor Reinhardt had consecutive RBI singles, but the inning would end with the bases loaded. Illinois Tech scored insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings and the Green Knights would not push a run across again.
St. Norbert finished with 11 hits. Reinhardt finished 4-for-5, while Dubois was 2-for-4.
Tommy Sheehan was 2-for-5 with a double.
Cole Bzdawka took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
