RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with losses of 13-6 and 15-5 to Concordia University Chicago at Cougar Field.
Batting as the visiting team both games, Concordia scored three runs in the top of the first in the opener. The Green Knights got a run in the bottom of the first when
Caden Uhlenbrauck scored on an error on a pickoff attempt. The Cougars added two runs in the top of the second for a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the second, Uhlenbrauck laced a bases-clearing triple to bring the Green Knights within 5-4, and
Sebastien Dubois' groundout brought Uhlenbrauck home to tie the game at 5-5.
St. Norbert took a 6-5 lead in the third inning on
Jaden Holgado's single plated
Carson Krumrei. That score held up until the eighth inning, when the Cougars scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to surge ahead.
Holgado and
Tommy Sheehan each had two hits for the Green Knights, who had eight hits.
Sam O'Leary took the loss for St. Norbert.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Tommy Sheehan brought home
Trevor Reinhardt on a groundout. The Cougars scored two runs in the third inning, but St. Norbert tied the game in the fourth on a Sheehan single to again score Reinhardt. Concordia Chicago scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead, but the Green Knights got a run back in the seventh on
Tyler Pigeon's RBI groundout.
Concordia then broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the eighth and four more in the top of the ninth. The Green Knights scored twice in the bottom of the ninth when
Peyton Just had an RBI double and
Sam O'Leary had a sacrifice fly.
Just was 3-for-3 for the Green Knights, while Sheehan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Jason Schroeder took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts in six innings pitched.
