ADRIAN, Mich. - It took a day longer than anticipated, but St. Norbert College advanced to the championship game of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 5-1 semifinal win over Aurora University at Adrian College's Arrington Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (20-5-3) will face Adrian at Noon EST Sunday for the Slaats Cup championship. St. Norbert's semifinal game and the championship game were delayed a day due to power failure Friday night in the Adrian area.
St. Norbert began to avenge its loss to Aurora in the 2022 Slaats Cup championship game by scoring a power-play goal late in the first period.
Jordan Moore finished at 16:59 off assists from
Morgan Olson and
Maddux Federici to put the Green Knights ahead 1-0.
The Green Knights pulled away in the second period when they scored a pair of goals 19 seconds apart. Moore scored a second power-play goal, this one off assists from
Lexi Bonfe and
Courtnie Hogan, at 8:11. Olson then connected at 8:30 off helpers from
Allison Jacobsen and
Kelsey Ross for a 3-0 edge. Aurora would get a 5-on-3 power-play goal from Ava Eid at 14:10 to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Ross got the goal back at 15:07 off a
Grace Wittkopf assists with a shorthanded marker at 15:07. The 4-1 score would hold up into second intermission.
Jacobsen scored the third period's only goal, with Ross assisting at 11:21.
Ross finished with one goal and two assists for three points. Moore had two goals for two points, while Olson and Jacobsen each had one goal and one assist for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora 24-23.
Brynn Waisman made 22 saves for the Green Knights. Tia Glube made eight stops in 35:07, while Samantha Steciak turned away 11 shots in relief for Aurora.
St. Norbert was 2-for-5 on the power play, while Aurora was 1-for-7.
