KOKOMO, Ind. - St. Norbert College traveled to the Hoosier State and opened a three-game series with Anderson University with a doubleheader and dropped games of 13-10 and 8-7 at Championship Park.
The Green Knights fell behind 5-0 through two innings in the opener but got three runs back in the third when
Jaden Holgado and
Sebastien Dubois drove in runs with triples. St. Norbert tied it at 5-5 with three runs in the fifth on a two-run double from
Trevor Reinhardt and an RBI single from
Huck Sprong.
Anderson scored one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth for an 8-5 lead, but St. Norbert cut it to 8-7 in the seventh on a Dubois RBI groundout and a RBI infield single by Reinhardt. The Ravens scored three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth for a 13-7 lead. Reinhardt hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to account for the final scoring.
Reinhardt finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and six runs batted in.
Devin Geary was 2-for-5, while
Caden Uhlenbrauck scored three runs.
Noah Lindsley worked 5 2/3 innings and was charged with the loss.
In Game 2, Anderson got a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to plate the game-winning run. St. Norbert was retired in order in the top of the ninth.
The Green Knights scored three runs in the top of the first on a run-scoring triple from Dubois, who then scored on an error.
Will DeBruin had a run-scoring double later in the inning. Anderson countered with four runs in the bottom of the first and one run in the second for a 5-3 lead. St. Norbert tied it at 5-5 in the third on an RBI double from Uhlenbrauck, who later scored on a throwing error. Anderson got a run in its half of the third to lead 6-5.
Anderson added a run in the sixth before St. Norbert tied it at 7-7 with two runs in the seventh. Geary's single brought home
Carson Krumrei, who had tripled. Uhlenbrauck's single then brought around Geary.
Krumrei was 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Geary was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Uhlenbrauck and Dubois were both 2-for-5.
Jason Schroeder worked 5 2/3 innings of relief and took a hard-luck loss, allowing five hits and one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts.
