St. Norbert Drops Two In Florida Finale

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College wrapped up its Spring Break trip to Florida with losses of 8-0 to the University of Chicago and a 7-6 setback to Kalamazoo College.

Against Chicago, the Green Knights were held to one hit by the Maroons' Delaney Choi, who didn't walk a batter and struck out two. Christina Paleka had the Green Knights' lone hit, while Bailie Thielen was tagged with the loss by allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings pitched.

St. Norbert held a 5-2 lead on Kalamazoo before the Hornets rallied. Kalamazoo scored a run in the top of the first inning before the Green Knights countered with three in the bottom half. Lilly Haase had an RBI single and Paleka a two-run double to account for the big inning. The Hornets got a run in the top of the second but St. Norbert got the run back in the bottom half on an Ava Engwall RBI grounder. The Green Knights added a run in the third on an Addison Race infield RBI single.

The Hornets would score four runs on four hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead. The Green Knights tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an unearned run, but Kalamazoo retook the lead with a run in the seventh. St. Norbert would get the potential tying run into scoring position with two out in the bottom of the seventh but could not tie the game.

St. Norbert finished with 12 hits. Engwall, Haase and Nicole Condon all had two hits. Elizabeth Stuebs took the loss, allowing one earned run in two innings of relief.

St. Norbert is idle until March 29 when it is scheduled to host UW-Oshkosh at Miron Construction Field.
