Green Knights Bounce Back For Split

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College came back to gain a split of a pair of games on its Florida Spring Break trip, opening with a 9-8 loss to UW-Stout before topping Westminster (Pa.) College 7-4.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Westminster. Zoe Zasada had an RBI groundout, Ava Engwall scored on a wild pitch and Christina Paleka drove in a run with a double. The Titans answered with two runs in the top of the second, but the Green Knights responded with three runs in the bottom of half of the inning for a 6-2 lead. Engwall had an RBI double, Allison Ardito had an RBI groundout and Engwall came around to score on an error.

The Green Knights added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Lilly Haase run-scoring single. Westminster got two runs in the top of the seventh close out the scoring.

St. Norbert had 10 hits. Engwall was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Meredith Manke was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Ardito was also 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Nicole Condon was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Addison Race got a complete-game win, scattering 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Against Stout, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead through four innings. The Green Knights countered with seven runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead. Meghan Gonnering had a two-run double, while Hannah Worachek added a two-run single. Zasada then had a three-run double to put St. Norbert ahead 7-6.

The Green Knights added a run in the sixth when a Gonnering single brough home Lilly Haase for an 8-6 edge. Stout would scored twice in the sixth to tie the game. St. Norbert would leave two runners on in the top of the seventh. Stout would get a two-out single to win the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the inning.

Gonnering was 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Green Knights, who had nine hits. Elizabeth Stuebs took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of relief.
