WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College banged out 22 hits as the Green Knights won a pair of games for the second-straight day, topping Hood College 8-1 and Roger Williams University 6-2.
The Green Knights improved to 4-0, continuing their best start since 2007 and matching a school record for most wins to open a season without a loss.
In the opener, St. Norbert fell behind when Hood scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but it was all Green Knights the rest of the way. St. Norbert pushed three runs across in the bottom of the second inning when
Lilly Haase stole home on the back end of a double steal and
Grace Engwall brought around two runs on a double.
The Green Knights posted an unearned run in the fourth inning, and then put the game away with a four-run fifth.
Allison Ardito brought in a run on an RBI grounder,
Paige Diercks drove in a run with a single,
Christina Paleka had an RBI single and Diercks then scored on a passed ball.
St. Norbert finished with eight hits. Diercks was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while
Nicole Condon was also 2-for-3.
Addison Race twirled her second complete-game in as many days, allowing four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Against Roger Williams, St. Norbert got the early jump with a pair of first-inning runs. Condon opened the inning with a single, and
Elizabeth Stuebs followed with a double. Ardito then singled up the middle to bring both runners home. The Green Knights added a run in the third inning on a Diercks RBI single to score Ardito.
Roger Williams scored two runs in the fourth inning, but the Green Knights responded with three runs in the sixth inning.
Meredith Manke brought home a run on an infield single, while Condon drove in a run with a double. Stuebs added a run-scoring single to close out the scoring.
The Green Knights had 14 hits. Ardito was 3-for-4, while Condon, Stuebs, Paleka and
Zoe Zasada were all 2-for-4. Stuebs pitching a complete game, allowing four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
